Youth Minister
Deaneries of Antigonish/ Guysborough/StFX and Pictou (part time; 4 month contract)

Under the direction of the Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator, the Youth Minister will lead youth faith study groups, assist at Youth Rallies, and prepare youth for faith pilgrimages.
Starting in January, working up to 15 hours per week at $15.00 per hour, and from the Chancery Office in Antigonish, the Youth Minister will travel to parish locations for scheduled evening and occasional weekend programs.
A valid driver’s license and the use of a car is required.
Qualifications include knowledge of the Catholic faith, and experience in facilitation with musical abilities considered an asset.

Youth Minister - Inverness Deanery (part time, 8-month contract)

The Diocese of Antigonish is seeking a Youth Minister for an 8-month, part-time contract in the Inverness Deanery area. Under the direction of the Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator, the Youth Minister will lead youth faith study groups, assist at Youth Rallies, and prepare youth for faith pilgrimages. 
This is a bilingual position, requiring fluency in both English and French.

Starting in November, and working approximately 60 hours per month at $15.00 per hour, and from a home-based office, the Youth Minister will travel to parish locations for scheduled evening and occasional weekend programs.
A valid driver’s license and the use of a car is required.

Qualifications include knowledge of the Catholic faith, experience in facilitation with musical abilities considered an asset. Job Title:

Youth Minister - Inverness Deanery

Overview and Purpose

With the understanding that Youth Ministry is integral to the evangelization of our Catholic faith, the Youth Minister is the front line worker for Youth Ministry. Relating with youth between ages 12 and 19 years of age, their aim is to help young people get to know Jesus Christ, to welcome him in their lives and to follow him as Lord and Savior. (2 Peter 1:11; 2:20; 2;2, 3:18). The second aim is to develop the faith in young people and to encourage them to strengthen their commitment to serve their Church, their society and the world. (“You give them Something to Eat” pg. 49)

 

General Description:

The role of Youth Minister reports to the Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator. With the aid of the pastoral plan for Youth Ministry, “You give them Something to Eat”, the Youth Minister promotes faith formation of youth; delivering activities and programs that will bring into focus their unique contributions to be shared within the Church and extended to society; while ensuring safe environments for all.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Under the direction of the Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator, the Youth Minister is responsible for onsite delivery of programs and activities for youth including faith study programs, youth rallies and preparation processes for youth pilgrimages.
  2. With the Priests of the Deanery, fosters the involvement of youth in the life of the parish, including inclusive and participative liturgy and prayer opportunities.
  3. Provides appropriate services and programs for intergenerational events where parents / chaperones of youth are including in the faith formation and faith experience of the youth.
  4. May also provides opportunities for service and linking such opportunities to fostering of peace and justice.
  5. Maintains safety protocols as outlined in the Responsible Ministry Guidelines.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Excellent knowledge of Catholic faith (preference given to University degree / diploma in Youth Ministry, Theology, Education or related discipline).
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement in interacting with youth and adults.
  3. Effective leadership skills demonstrated through competencies including self-management / self-control, organization and management of processes and programs, time management as the role requires ability to work independently as well as in collaborative situations.
  4. A FACT person – Faith filled, Available, Contagious, Teachable
  5. Experienced in facilitation with an energetic and connecting style.
  6. Ability to lead music ministry is considered an asset.
  7. Must have computer skills, familiarity with social media platforms, and webinars.
  8. Ability to work flexible hours as evening and weekend work is required.
  9. Valid driving license and capable of travelling within geographic region (personal vehicle is required)

Wo:

Working Conditions:
This role is suited to someone who can work from a home office in the Inverness Deanery.
Position requires the ability to work a non-traditional work week where the majority of working hours are weekends and evenings.
Position requires the ability to drive distances to reach parish and diocesan offices.
Ability to drive distances at night is required.
Responsible ministry protocols must be successfully completed including a valid criminal record check, Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Register Check.

Compensation and Benefits:
This is an 8 month contract position.
Compensation is $15.00 per hour based on 15 hours per week.
Benefits will include 4% vacation pay.

Performance Evaluation:
A 3-month performance evaluation will be conducted.
