Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2026

“There is one body and one spirit, just as you were called to the hope of your calling.”
Ephesians 4:4

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an annual ecumenical celebration. Christians around the world are invited to pray for the unity of all Christians, to reflect on scripture together, to participate in jointly-organized ecumenical services, and to share fellowship.

The recently-launched National Ecumenical Strategy of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) lays particular stress upon “spiritual ecumenism,” defined as “the heart of the ecumenical movement.” This includes “praying for and with other Christians, promoting prayer for unity in local parishes, and participation in the planning and leadership of interdenominational prayer services for various intentions— especially that of Christian unity.” The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (WPCU), which falls in 2026 from January 18th to 25th, offers a chance for these activities.

Some local events:

Jan.19th – 23, 12-1pm
St. Marguerite Bourgeois church, Sydney
All are invited to attend.

Jan. 29, 7 pm
St. Ninian Cathedral, Antigonish
This week is meant to help us pray for all Christians, that the divisions we experience will be put aside and that we will work toward unity in the church.
