“As we journey through this Season of Lent, let us embody Christ’s compassion by turning our collective hope into tangible help for those in need. Your generosity can help transform lives and foster lasting change.” Bishop Wayne Kirkpatrick

Pastoral Letter:
Share Lent Campaign Development and Peace – Caritas Canada (DPCC) 2026

My Dear Clergy and My Dear People,

Since its founding in 1967, Development and Peace has dedicated itself to addressing the root causes of these injustices by collaborating with partners in the Global South and mobilizing fellow Canadians to pursue justice and dignity for all. This Lent, let us join in solidarity with those who suffer the burdens of unjust debts, which they will never be able to repay.

This Lent, join us On Track for Justice, walking hand in hand with communities in the Global South who are mobilizing to ensure their rights and the environment are respected. Our partner Justiça nos Trilhos – JnT (Justice on Rails) supports communities affected by the Carajás railway, which connects one of the world’s largest iron ore mines in the state of Pará to the port of São Luis in the state of Maranhão.

This Lent, we will meet communities whose lives are affected by the railway, mining and industrial agriculture. We will learn how they are resisting simply to exist on their lands, to defend human rights, and to protect the environment. As we journey through this Season of Lent, let us embody Christ’s compassion by turning our collective hope into tangible help for those in need. Your generosity can help transform lives and foster lasting change.

On Solidarity Sunday, the Fifth Sunday of Lent, please give generously to Share Lent, our annual fundraising campaign supporting the transformative work of Development and Peace in over 30 countries.

If you have any questions about the campaign or the Share Lent materials, you are invited to contact our Regional DPCC animator, Adah Ogbe, at aogbe@devp.org.

Thank you for your prayers and generous support.

Fraternally,

+ Wayne Joseph Kirkpatrick
